"But there comes a point where the origin of the cards you hold becomes irrelevant, and you have to play the hand you are dealt."

This whole article on shared parenting is very interesting, but this quote in particular stood out for me in many contexts.

Montage For The Perpetually Lazy

Montage images are nifty, but I'm too lazy to fire up Photoshop to make them. Never fear, there's an online app to do it for me: Montage-a-Google. It makes a montage out of searches on Google images.

I made this one by searching for "kellenheller"

It's made of stars

The 30's and 40's in Color

The Library of Congress has released an AMAZING collection of photographs from the Great Depression and WWII. I haven't even gotten through a tenth of them. They're so inspiring and rich, I want to savor each one.

Vroom Vroom

I have a 14 year old Jeep Grand Cherokee. Although I just had to have a full set of new brakes (ouch), I can't complain too much. The car has done very well for me over the years. And I love not having a car payment.

Every time I bring it in someplace, the mechanic always compliments me on how well I've taken care of the car and emphasizes it's in great shape. Ya know, the only thing I really do is get the oil, lube and filter jobber with whatever coupon I find in the mail about every 4 to 6 months! But I guess that's enough.

I did find these great tips on care care today though, which gave me some easy ways to make it last even longer. And if I ever do get a new car (I've got my eye on a Honda Element, so cute), I'll aim for 20 years with that one :)

66. Run your AC in winter
To keep your car's air-conditioning system fit for the next warm season, run it a few times throughout the winter. This will prevent moving parts in the compressor from seizing. Also, circulating the refrigerant will help keep the seals soft and pliant.

One Off Faxes

Faxes, bah! Who still uses these?

Apparently some still do, because I had to send a fax tonight. But I don't have a fax machine, and I didn't want to run down to Kinko's.

I used a service called FaxItNice. Couldn't have been easier. For $4.99, I was able to upload the file, pay via PayPal (or credit card), fax it and get it confirmed. What was really nice is that I didn't need to register or sign up for a dumb free trial.

I don't get anything out of this. I just thought the service was convenient, and you *know* how I'm all about the people. :)

Art, Geek Style

Shouldn't take long for this to make its way around, but I'll do my part to share it with you now. "paulthewineguy" adds internet symbols to famous art works to appeal to your inner geek:

Criss-Cross Applesauce

Criss-cross applesauce, little ones, settle down here in a circle. It's story-time!

We're reading Silas Marner by George Eliot. Actually listening to it complements of Librivox. If you haven't checked it out, you should - volunteers read literary works in the public domain and record them to mp3.

Now everybody lay down on their rugs and drink their milk!
